Henbury Millennium Green – Supporting Traditional Crafts

The Cheshire Rural Trust provided a grant to enable a mixed hedge to be laid to support the authenticity and integrity of the Henbury Millennium Green for years to come.

The project has enabled hedge laying skills to be taught to local volunteers, and will be used to teach hedge and woodland management including coppicing to additional volunteers from the local community. Hedge laying and coppicing are valuable rural skills that support the preservation of hedges and woodland areas for the long term.

As well as teaching new skills, the project led to three new people volunteering with the Henbury Millennium Green Trust, one of whom became a trustee. In a time when finding volunteers can be difficult, this was a welcome boost to the Henbury Millennium Green Trust.

Millennium Greens are areas of public space that have been purchased and managed so that they can be enjoyed permanently by the local community. They are places for relaxation, play, enjoyment of nature in pleasant surroundings.

The Henbury Millennium Green is well used by the community on an ad hoc basis for relaxation and also for community events such as the village fete, village bonfire and the anniversary celebration of the local primary school.
